W.M.C. 2010
A photographic project in Working Men’s Clubs, Morley
Kyle Horn
Morley Library hosts an exhibition of new photographs by Kyle Horn, taken as part of his degree in Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University.
Of the exhibition Kyle says:
My project W.M.C. is a social documentary of the community spirit and values of 1960’s Morley that survives today only in its Working Men’s Clubs. The work was created over a period of a month in which I frequently visited four clubs based in and around Morley Town centre. My plan was to depict, through the use of photography, the struggle of these Clubs in today’s economic climate as well as exploring the strong sense of community that is attributed to these institutions. Important to what I wanted to capture in this work was the generation that remembered Morley when it used to be its own council and was a very close-knit community with a specific identity. I felt it important to capture that generation before they died out potentially with the clubs themselves.
This project is an exhibition, celebration and documentation.
The Exhibition is displayed in the main Library area throughout the Festival
